In this interview, Amarinder, a final-year MSc Computer Science student at StFX, shares his journey since moving from Ferozpur, Punjab, India to Antigonish in August 2023. Currently on a study permit, Amarinder talks about the challenges he faced, especially finding accommodation and securing a job during the summer of 2024. His younger brother, who is also in Canada, helped him find a house in Antigonish. Job hunting was another hurdle—after leaving an on-campus job in February, he struggled to find work until landing a part-time job in late May. Amarinder enjoys the Antigonish community and the vibrant sports culture, often attending matches. He now works with X Patrol, an on-campus job that helps him stay connected with other students.

Amarinder’s advice to future students is to prioritize on-campus jobs, as they offer great opportunities to connect and grow. He recommends StFX for its affordable MSc program in Computer Science compared to other universities, and for the welcoming community spirit. The support from the Bloomfield Center and the Student Union ("The U") further enriches the student experience, making StFX an excellent choice not only for academics but for cultural integration as well.
