I am a second year Masters of Computer Science at X. I am from New Delhi, a city in the heart of the capital of India, which has a great historical significance along with lively marketplaces and amazing food. I came to this beautiful town of Antigonish in the fall of 2021.
As an international student, I experienced high cost of transportation, which included high rates of cab. Also, at the time I came here, I was not able to find a variety of Indian groceries including the lentils, vegetables, and dried spices, and the meals available at the campus were also expensive. This made me to travel to Halifax or Sydney, once in two or three months, to buy groceries. This also added to the high gas prices to travel to these places.
Looking back at my experiences, which would be similar to those of other students, I would like to suggest other new and current students at StFX, to learn to walking distances around the campus and the town, which could help you save on the dollars you would have to spend on transportation. Also, make a habit to cook and store meals at home, that is what I do, and it really helps in eating a healthy meal. Lastly, prepare yourself, physically and mentally to work hard, which may be difficult during the first few months, however, you would adapt to the environment and it would help you to manage your professional as well as personal life in Canada.
